Reflectances in trueSpace 3

I've developed this tutorial to show you, the truespace user, how to create realistic reflective surfaces using trueSpace's shaders. To make things simple, I've also captured pictures of the scene in progress and then the final render at the end. Enjoy!

All I've done here is create a simple plane. You are looking at it from the "top view". No textures have been applied yet.

Sphere01.jpg (10220 bytes)
Here's step two. I've created a sphere and placed it on top of the plane. The sphere will be the object that will be reflected. Now to add some textures.

This is the shader settings that will be applied to the sphere. Pretty striaght forward.

That's the texture I mapped onto the plane. Notice the UV reps co-respond with the bump reps etc. This texture is from Marlin Studios seamless textures CD, so I'm sorry, I can't give it to you. :)

*you have to remember to set the roughness setting BELOW the shine setting. If you do the opposite, there will be no reflection. I personally never use the refraction bar. It's pretty much useless for my needs. If you want more reflection, increase shine and roughness following the same rules as stated above.

There is the complete, ready-to-render version of the scene. The lighting is all set. To get "soft shadow" effect, I like to place a less intense non shadow light where the shadow will be cast. I've tried to let you see how I did it. Now for the render!

Make sure you set raytracing "on" by right clicking on the render icon render_scene.jpg (4647 bytes) . I would also get into the habit of rendering your scene at 3x (if not 4x) anti-ailiasing. As you can see, our soft shadow turned out nicely! That's how to do it folks. If you have any questions write to:
